Our Mission is Threefold
Save The Coconuts is an organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness to fight breast cancer and make life easier for those living with the disease..
We use a number of fund-raising activities, many of which are fun and celebrate the lives of people who are living with breast cancer and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease.
Save the Coconuts was formed in 2008 as one of the teams participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, 60-Mile Walk in Washington. With a team of 18 walkers, we were quite a presence at the walk — by the end of the walk, everyone knew The Coconuts!
But more important, we recognized that we had begun a journey that extended beyond 60 miles. We migrated from a team walking solely to raise funds for national organizations to a non-profit dedicated to raising funds that also benefit the local Annapolis and Anne Arundel County organizations that help men and women who are living with breast cancer.
We were formed as a walking team, and will continue to be one. A number of our continue to participate in the Avon two-day walk in May and the Komen 3-Day in October, both in Washington DC. Other team members have participated in the Komen walk in other parts of the country -- as far away as California. More team members are always welcome, so if you've thought about doing one of these walks, this is a great time to join us. Funds generated by Save The Coconuts will continue to support the tremendous work being done by both Avon and Komen.
We also work to generate funds that go directly to institutions doing research on finding a cure for breast cancer, particularly in the area of metastatic breast cancer. Thirty percent of women with breast cancer will advance to this terminal illness, but only a limited amount of research funds focuses on this advanced stage. Read more about metastatic breast cancer.
Finally, we want to keep funds closer to home in the Annapolis area. There are many organizations doing tremendous work to support breast cancer patients working with very limited funds. We contribute to them as well.Annapolis Community Foundation (a 501(c)(3) organization) and Save The Coconuts work together to provide tax deductible benefits to those working to help cure breast cancer. Tax deductible donations to Save The Coconuts can be made in care of Annapolis Community Foundation (EIN # 41-2066083) by clicking on the “Donate Now” button, or by mailing a check payable to Annapolis Community Foundation to PO Box 3057, Annapolis, MD 21403; please note "Save the Coconuts" in the memo area of the check.
